The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer is designed for students pursuing careers in the life sciences, healthcare, and allied health professions—including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and biomedical research.
Biology is one of the most rapidly evolving fields of the 21st century, with discoveries that directly shape society, medicine, and our understanding of life itself. Career and academic pathways within the biological sciences are broad and continually expanding, encompassing genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, forensic science, pathology, microbiology, conservation biology, ecology, environmental science, marine biology, botany, zoology, and forestry, among others.
This degree provides a clear, structured transfer pathway to the California State University (CSU) system. Upon completion, students are guaranteed admission to a CSU campus in a similar major with junior standing, and may complete their remaining baccalaureate requirements within 60 semester or 90 quarter units.
Degree Requirements To earn the AS-T in Biology, students must meet the following:
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.0
- Minimum grade of "C" (or "P") in each required major course
- Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor early to develop an educational plan and ensure timely completion of all transfer requirements.
To earn this degree complete the major coursework listed here with “C” grades or higher and the following graduation requirements:
- 60 CSU transferable units;
- the Cal-GETC pattern; and
- 2.0 minimum overall CSU GPA.
