VVC's Cosmetology Discipline was created to offer a quality education for every student who wishes to pursue a career in the field of cosmetology including barbering, hairstyling, manicuring, and esthetics. Certificates of achievement are awarded for progression through each program as students learn theoretical and practical skills that meet the standards outlined by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, preparing graduates for licensure. Students will perform services on the general public in our simulated salon environment. Locally projected increases in cosmetology workforce demand will expand career opportunities to students in various employment opportunities for licensed high desert graduates. Job opportunities include hairstyling, manicuring, esthetics, barbering, cosmetology positions, self-employment options, educators, freelance and special event hires, and many others including expanding into other industries where aesthetics and self-care are evolving.
This introductory course focuses on the fundamentals of health and safety as outlined by The California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, serving as the This is a lecture-based course that will review health and safety topics including: working safely with chemicals, the SDS (Safety Data Sheet), various communicable diseases, health and safety problems, and infection control practices and prevention. Additionally, it will introduce students to the history and career paths pertaining to the fields of Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, and Nail Technology. This course will fulfil a minimum of 48 hours of the health and safety component of training as outlined in the state-mandated 1000-hour cosmetology guidelines.
