The Introductory Cosmetology Certificate of Completion provides a foundation for continuing personal, professional, and educational development. Students will be able to communicate the essential skills and practices for basic cosmetology fundamentals, including the health and safety standards necessary to reduce and minimize public safety issues in the workplace. This certificate will cover the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology health, safety, and disinfection standards; instructional lectures and procedures; and written and practical examinations. Students completing this certificate will have a basic theoretical and practical understanding of industry safety standards and will be prepared to begin implementing these practices for the benefit of volunteer patrons from within the community in a simulated salon environment. Students can then expand on this introductory knowledge by progressing in the program, pursuing both intermediate and advanced certificates that will prepare them for a licensed career in cosmetology. Locally projected increases in cosmetology workforce demand will expand career opportunities to students in various employment opportunities for high desert graduates. Job opportunities include hairstyling, manicuring, esthetics, self-employed cosmetologists, educators, freelance and special event hires, salon management and ownership, and cosmetology product developers, as well as expanding into other industries where aesthetics and self-care are evolving.
