The Intermediate Barber Certificate of Completion provides a foundation for continuing personal, professional, and educational development. Students will be able to communicate intermediate skills and practices incorporating the health and safety standards necessary to reduce and minimize public safety issues in the workplace. This certificate will cover intermediary barber fundamentals; the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology health, safety, and disinfection standards; intermediary instructional lectures and techniques; and written and practical examinations. Students will expound on the basic theoretical and practical understanding of industry safety standards to include practical applications on volunteer patrons from within the community. Upon completion of this certificate, students will have demonstrated this knowledge in daily practices within a simulated salon environment on patrons from within the community. Students can then expand on this knowledge by progressing in the program, to obtain an advanced certificate that will complete their training requirements as outlined by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology for licensure. Locally projected increases in barbering workforce demand will expand career opportunities to students within various employment opportunities for high desert graduates. Job opportunities include self-employed barbers, barber school educators, barber product developers, freelance and special event hires, barbershop management and ownership, as well as expanding into other industries where aesthetics and self-care are evolving.
