The Athletics program at Victor Valley College provides students with the opportunity to participate in intercollegiate competition while pursuing their academic and educational goals. The program is designed to support student‑athletes in developing athletic skill, leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and personal responsibility within a structured team environment, while maintaining progress toward lower‑division general education and degree completion.
Intercollegiate Athletics at Victor Valley College emphasizes student success both on and off the field. Participation in varsity athletics promotes discipline, time management, accountability, and commitment, while fostering personal growth and academic achievement. Student‑athletes are expected to meet academic, eligibility, and conduct standards established by the College and applicable athletic governing bodies.
The Athletics curriculum includes varsity intercollegiate courses (ATHL 120–144), which correspond to participation on Victor Valley College athletic teams, as well as athletic preparation and performance courses designed to support skill development, conditioning, and readiness for intercollegiate competition. These courses provide structured athletic instruction aligned with team participation and athletic development.
Victor Valley College also offers a Certificate of Achievement in Athletics, designed for students who wish to participate in intercollegiate athletics while completing lower‑division general education coursework. The certificate provides student‑athletes with an opportunity to demonstrate academic achievement alongside excellence in intercollegiate athletic participation.
The Athletics Certificate of Achievement integrates:
- Participation in varsity intercollegiate athletics courses
- Completion of athletic preparation or sports performance coursework
- A structured selection of general education and elective courses that support academic success, communication, critical thinking, and personal development
Through completion of the certificate, students demonstrate competencies related to leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and personal responsibility within a competitive athletic environment, while progressing toward degree completion and transfer pathways.
The Athletics program works collaboratively with Counseling and instructional disciplines to support student‑athletes’ academic planning and educational outcomes. The Certificate of Achievement in Athletics reflects Victor Valley College’s commitment to equity, access, and student success by encouraging student‑athletes to persist in their education while competing at the intercollegiate level.
